X2 and X3 series. Which have built in wi-fi.
ie you dont have to have a wireless card sticking out the side. I've done a search, but its not totally clear.

Internal WiFI was optional starting with the X22. I'm sure that it was still optional even on newer models such as the X32. Therefore, knowing the type and model of a specific system is important so you could check on the Lenovo site whether it came configured with the internal wireless card and antenna.

So basically if you buy one used, ask first.

But some are wireless upgradeable i.e the antennae are already built in to the lid so you just need to pop the keyboard off and install a wifi mini PCI card. Look at the lenovo site or the hardware book to see which models contained were wireless upgradable.

ALL X31/32 units left the factory as wireless ready, with antennae in place, regardless whether the actual card was installed or not, so you can't go wrong there.
With X22/23/24 and X30, it's a hit or miss.
Check page #105 onwards in the X2 HMM, you can pretty much figure what models were shipped with internal wireless or BT.
Good luck.

Re: X2 and X3 series. Which have built in wi-fi.
On Ebay you see a lot of X31's which are advertised and not having built in wi-fi. If they all have a built in antenna, basically its a case of getting an internal card. Is this correct.ajkula66 wrote:ALL X31/32 units left the factory as wireless ready, with antennae in place, regardless whether the actual card was installed or not, so you can't go wrong there.

Yes. Take the keyboard off, plop the card in, put the keyboard back on and you're all set.

Is this easy to do, and is the card easy to find. Alternatively i should limit myself to those sold only with internal wi-fi.ajkula66 wrote:Yes. Take the keyboard off, plop the card in, put the keyboard back on and you're all set.

Installation requires about 5 minutes...if you take your time, that is.
All X31/32, as previously stated, have left the factory wireless ready. Ten quid and five minutes later, you have a machine with internal wireless, just download the driver and on your way...

Actually you may have to run the no-1802 BIOS trick before you install the Wifi card if its not an IBM FRU wireless card. Otherwise you will get the 1802 error when you boot and cant bypass it without removing the card.
