Expanding the Memory Max on IBM Thinkpad X41?
Expanding the Memory Max on IBM Thinkpad X41?
My X41 has a 0.5 GB fixed RAM and I added a 1 GB chip in the only open slot. Is is possible to add more RAM into this slot or will the system not recognize the extra memory? Is this a hardware limitation or a software one that may be expanded with Windows 7?
Thanks.

The question is will the system recognize it and will 2 GB work in the X41?

Re: Expanding the Memory Max on IBM Thinkpad X41?
As a basic summary, the OS will only recognize 1.99GB out of your 2.5GB of RAM. However, it's pretty easy to get 2GB RAM sticks nowadays, so just put 2.5GB in.
What I personally did was I decided I could live without 4GB of RAM in my other laptop, and replaced one of the 2GB sticks with a 1GB stick. I then put the 2GB stick into the X41. Only difference is really when running Adobe CS4 apps, and having many tabs open.

So is the speed bump worth it? I would guess that 33% more RAM should make a difference.

Made a difference on mine anyway. As mentioned in a previous post, you notice it when doing many things at once, or using memory pig applications.hawkvc wrote:So is the speed bump worth it? I would guess that 33% more RAM should make a difference.
