Linux on X41 Tablet that runs digitizer pens

#1 Post by ideal-pc » Sun Oct 04, 2009 8:56 am

Hi all,

Does anyone out there know of a Linux build that I could put on an X41 Tablet that will allow the use of the digitzer pens? My customer has been using Mandriva One which is excellent for networking but unfortunately I do not know of a way of getting the pens to work!

So naturally my thoughts turned to the community at thinkpads.com  Anybody have any ideas? If so I would be very grateful.

Anthony

Anthony:

Ubuntu / Kubuntu support the X41T digitizer out of the box, and I suspect many other distros will also. If you have any problems, check the Ubuntu forum for lots of information on getting the pen to work. You can probably apply the same fixes to your Mandriva installation to get the pen working. Also, there are some posts on this topic in the ThinkPads Linux forum.

UPDATE

Mandriva One 2010 now runs the digitizer pen out of the box

If anybody is intereted it can be downloaded as a live CD with installer here: http://www2.mandriva.com/downloads/?p=linux-one

Please note to anybody who does go on to install it you need to uncheck the box to disable unused hardware support otherwise the installer disables the pen!!

No experience with Mandriva. With the X41T I was able to enable pretty much all the features with Ubuntu 9.04. You have to do some scripting, but for Ubuntu, it's all spelled out on their forums or in tech blogs. It's easy to get the tablet buttons to work with setkeycoes. But, it's a bit of a pain to deal with screen rotation. I wasn't able to get any automatic scripts to work so I'm using 6 buttons on the top bar. But it does work just fine. The only things that I don't have compared to something like Win XP Tablet or Win7 are the universal on screen writing, or the eraser.

Just curious, does all of that work out of the box in Mandriva?

At last test, no, unfortunately screen rotation was still not working. However seeing as the pen etc is now supported out of the box I am hoping for a fix soon. Linux coding just isn't my thing

Same with Mint, because it's Ubuntu based. The pen works out of the box, but no screen rotation. Fedora is the same way.

I suppose I should specify. This is on an X60t. I haven't tried it on an X41t
