Bluetooth confusion on an x41

#1 Post by burepe » Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:04 am

I spent days trying to make my bluetooth work, but now I think my x41 doesn't have bluetooth because there is no bluetooth LED indicator. The weird thing is that I have bluetooth in the control panel and there is even a bluetooth device in the device manager.

I read a page, that I can't find now which someone listed 2 bluetooth devices in the device manager. Like I said, I have one. It is the bluetooth bus listing or something. My machine is in Japanese so I am not sure of the exact English term.

So what is going on here? Does my machine have bluetooth? If not can I put a card in it? This trackpad mouse is killing me.

Thanks

If you have BT and the Hotkey utility is loaded, you should be able to turn it on by Fn+F5. It should be listed in Access Connection also.

It is not. Can I add a internal bluetooth hardware to an x41 that didn't have it originally?

If you remove the keyboard and can see 3 wires coming out of the screen hinges, 2 on one side 1 on the other, then you have, or should have, bluetooth.
Otherwise you can add bluetooth by swapping the modem chip with a modem/bluetooth one. It's located in the center under the palmrest, so there is some disassembly required.
I did the same thing on both my X40 and X41, the parts were all available on eBay and the LED strips showing the bluetooth icon were also available on eBay. You'll need an antenna wire, but it doesn't have to go up behind the screen, mine is rolled up under the keyboard and is fine.

Check that. The modem is behind the rear panel. so no disassembly.
