X31 external display won't come back after monitor sleep

#1 Post by Terrahawk » Wed Oct 28, 2009 2:15 pm

My X31 has had a strange issue lately, mostly to do with my relatively new 19in WSXGA+ LCD monitor. What happens, is that once the X31's display goes to sleep after 15 minutes (this is all on a Port Replicator II running on AC) the external monitor doesn't come back. The Thinkpad's own LCD works fine but if I have the external monitor on, it just gets a blank screen. I have tried unplugging the monitor connection and then putting it back but that doesn't work either. The monitor claims that it is getting a signal... it just happens to be a completely black one!

If I put the X31 to sleep and then bring it back up, everything works again. Has anyone had this issue?

Are you using Presentation Manager, which version? What is the Video driver version?

Presentation Director 2.57
Display driver version 8.133.2.1.1.1-070206a-043154C

Presentation Manager does no good since the external display is the primary display, and I can't see the start menu, let alone the Fn+F7 selection window.

I don't think that there is a later version of the video driver on the Lenovo web site.

I get this problem all the time with my X41T, only except without an external monitor and the main screen won't come back up.

You may want to set the default display device in BIOS to VGA port.

Regardless, I suggest you to update the PD to version 4.0 and above.
