Add fingerprint reader to X41T

#1 Post by Temetka » Tue Nov 10, 2009 4:16 am

So i have an X41T 1867-CTO.

Can I add the fingerprint reader to my machine? If so what FRU's do I need?

Thanks.

There's an external USB version if you don't want to replace your palmrest/mouse assy.

X41t has the scanner on the LCD frame. Finding a complete top assembly is probably easiest.

No dude.

I'd look it up to confirm.

Never mind, I'll do it myself.

MODS: Close this thread. It's doing nothing anyway.

Interesting place to put it. Shows I shouldn't assume, eh?

No, not really; the machine being a tablet, it's assumed that with some regularity, the user would need to use it with the screen folded over in "tablet-mode", covering the KB area. Therefore, the LCD frame area would be the only place where the FP Scanner would be accessible in either position of use.

As a general note; posting a thread to a forum, like asking a question in a classroom isn't necessarily for that person only, but can and should be construed as possibly being of use to others as well. And therefore, just because it's ceased to be of use to you, doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to be closed.

More specifically, if an answer doesn't come back quite in the form that you might have preferred is no reason to get snippy with the replier. Although many of the Forum's users here do have encyclopedic knowledge of ThinkPad parts and their attendant uses, it shouldn't be assumed that they will simply do your "legwork" for you. It often does happen (especially if the answer is for someone who is clearly a beginner), but it is clearly within the judgment and/or the time constraints of the person answering to simply "point in the right direction".

Therefore, it serves no purpose to tread on the edges of civility other than to encourage that person and/or others to quite possibly ignore your posts in the future. Maybe I'm reading too much into the tone of this posts, but if I'm accurate in my perceptions, then this needed to be addressed.
