formating Battery

#1 Post by vladis » Fri Nov 27, 2009 12:30 pm

Hi folks,

About month ago I bought X41 with 8 cells battery in good condition ( green light in Battery MaxiMiser ). Notebook was long time unused because no hdd. ( for 100 euro with ultrabay, also good buy :) ) On begin of using laptop it takes on full charge about 4 hours.

Today it still can hold same charge, BUT battery indicator cant properly show time. For ex. it will display that laptop will work next 3 hours, but on 0 % it takes next hour. On ebay some sellers write, that laptop now hold for ex. 70 % of charge, BUT they can format battery to 85 %.

What exactly did they meant with that formating battery, or what should I do to calibrate battery indicator to correct indicating ?

I had same problem with X31.

Here are some informations from battery MaxiMiser gauge:

Code: Select all

Lion
full charge capacity: 44,14Wh
design capacity: 64,80 Wh
cycle count: 42
first used date 2005-07
battery health: yellow
thanx !

IIRC, the battery maximizer application has instructions in it's "help" section that explains how to calibrate the battery meter and condition the battery.

I know, I did it on X31 but it dont works :(

1.) I charged battery to 100%
2.) then started discharging to that time when laptop had no power to run and it turns off
3.) then I charged it again on 100%
... BUT indicator was still yellow.

any other solutions ?

That is about all you can do. Batteries just deteriorate over time and with use. In my experience, the battery recondition procedure doesn't do much good. I have seen it make a little difference sometimes, but not much.

The only real solution is to replace the battery with a new one.

Does anyone know if the Battery Maximiser software works under Windows 7? Or if there is anything similar?

I replaced battery maximister with power manager and now battery life time is displaying more correctly and battery health is green not yellow.
