x32 model/serial mismatch??? anybody help?

#1 Post by sysbox27 » Sat Nov 28, 2009 1:00 pm

Hi,
I have just purchased what I thought was an X32 (have wanted one for a while now) 2nd hand off eprey.
I have a concern however.
I have noticed that the model/serial number at the bottom of the casing indicates 2673-C2U (an X31 model) whereas the seller told me it was 2672-M4G and when I do a auto check on the lenovo website it also reports it as 2672-M4G.
I am concerned as I wanted a genuine original X32 and not something somebody else knocked together with some spare parts.
Should I be concerned? Does this model mismatch seem correct?
Does this sound like a mistake at factory, or more likely that this mchine has had case repairs/swap out or been assembled with loose spares?
Can anybody lend some advice on what might have happened?

The seller seems like a pleasant person and has offered to refund my money if I return it now if I am that unhappy.

So should I return and rather find another machine?

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

Best regards,
G.

It could have been just a case swap because they are compatible. They way I'd look into it is to download, install, and run CPU-Z. Then look at what CPU it reports in the machine. If it is a Pentium M Banias it will have 1mb of L2 cache. If it is a Dothan it will have 2mb of L2 cache. All X32's are Dothans.

Thanks for the quick response.

It reports Dothan and 2MB L2 cache.

Should I be concerned though, if it had a case swap and the serials were not transferred?
That would imply a non-IBM repair?

Many thanks again.

Well, even IBM would not xfer the serial number sticker to a new base if they replaced it. The important thing is that it is what you paid for and that it works. The sticker is trivial really. But hey, if you are not comfortable with it, then return it. Can't comment on the repair because I was not there.
