X41Tablet Disks 6 & 7 needed AND Armorall on a thinkpad??

#1 Post by madmaven » Mon Nov 30, 2009 6:55 pm

HI,
:( I am looking for disks 6 and disk 7 of 7 for the x41 Tablet IBM, and was hoping someone might have them and could make me a copy. i would send you something for your time naturally. A very nice young man, remko sent me some all the way from the Netherlands and I am somehow missing the last two. I'm in Florida, USA. I you could help plese let me know.
I would love to get this little dolly up and running again. I found it on Ebay, got a memory door, got another with the COA this time, got the disks from Remko and am at a loss as to where the last 2 of the series are. :?: :? It's a little worn and tired looking but the screen is bright and I think it has a lot of life left in her. (HAHA just like me  )
I'll probably use WD40 to clean the sticky off it. Has anyone ever used Armorall on a Thinkpad???
Thank you in advance

Don't use WD40 on a ThinkPad...

Used sparingly, I've found that Armorall is a good product to spruce up a tired ThinkPad. It blackens the blacks. It is a liquid though, so don't spray it directly on the laptop, apply it to a cloth first. And don't get any on the screen.

One rather innocuous product that I've used to remove sticker residue in the past has been plain old vegetable oil. Then you'll have to use a regular cleaner afterward to remove any oil leftover, but it works well.

As far as safe general cleaning is concerned, I've use Clorox wipes that another member suggested and it has worked very well for me.

I wouldnt use armorall on a laptop. Every time you pick it up you'll get greasy (not to mention your keys will be greasy as well).

Use rubbing alcohol to clean the case, and then buff it with a wet towel (makes the matte finish look uniform).
The iso gets the case really clean (and lifts up all the oils on the surface). Im not sure i would use iso on the screen (i just use lens cleaner and a microfiber towel).

There's no grease in Armorall! Of course if you don't use it sparingly, it has a shiny finish, but that disappears quite quickly. I've used it since my first ThinkPad ten years ago, no issues.

Clorox?!?

That stuff is pure poison, I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole.

What I use is LCD cleaner or distilled water with 1 teaspoon of white wine vinegar. Cleans nicely (sticker reside as well) and for the most part is non-toxic (don't know what is LCD cleaner). I also use a shammy style hand towel and it gets my X41T looking like new every time without fail.

I use WD40 to get sticker residue off all computers wipe really well. :thumbs-UP: then the alcohol/water mix for screens and also plastics. I Never use wd40 on the keyboards, and I can hear my husband saying don't use on the steering wheel. :BAAAD!:
I use vinegar/water dolop of dish detergent toclean up computers also  . I use the microfiber cloths, and papertowels.
ALso multi sized paint brushes, artists, and small can paint brushes, a small vacuum, and canned air sometimes.

The X41 TABLET is a success thanks to RE404 and HARRYc thanks to them for their multi disk support. It is up and running and the pen taps away. it is interesting to work with but i am too ingrained in the mouse/typing culture that i will probably not keep it too long. It is satisfying to see it functional. it took a lot!!!
