Capacitive touch screen mod for X41 tablet?
Capacitive touch screen mod for X41 tablet?
Has anybody out there found information about a possible way to replace the wacom technology with a capacitive system to make the screen finger touch friendly?

Re: Capacitive touch screen mod for X41 tablet?
I just emailed the people at NJYtouch about pricing for the 12.1" capacitive touch screen.
I look forward to hearing back from them and getting some information back here.

Re: Capacitive touch screen mod for X41 tablet?
Finally got an email back from NJT. Good news.
The capacitive touchscreen is compatible with the X41t.
The unfortunate part its that the stylus won't work any more.
There is a company that makes a stylus for the iPhone which uses a similar capacitive touchscreen.
That being said, the price for the screen is $110 and is available immediately.
The price for the custom stylus is $28.
If I had disposable income, I pick one up.

That's pretty cool, but the external USB connection would be pretty ugly, running out of he case and to one of the USB ports . If somehow you could rig up an internal USB connection and shorten the cable it might work. However there's a shortage of space in the thinkpads already so shoehorning the controller into he case would be difficult.
When someone does this, I'll expect a full report. (-:

Oops, that one is most likely a resistive screen.

You have to go to their website and send them an email. Then you have to patiently wait for several days before they get back to you.mrozema wrote:EngineersCake: how does one order from NJT?
Are you actually thinking about undertaking this project? That's awesome. Just be careful taking the original digitizer off. (-:

Ya, I'm considering it. I'm going to see if I can save the digitizer though. I'd like to have both.

That's so cool. I hope you tale some pictures while you do it. I'd be really interested in how the NJT panel interfaces with the x41.mrozema wrote:Ya, I'm considering it. I'm going to see if I can save the digitizer though. I'd like to have both.
Good luck to you.

Would it be possible to clip the connector off the cap/touch panel and splice the wacom connector on to the new harness? Maybe order two new harnesses.

Ok, I know it's been a while, but I finally bit the bullet and ordered that capacitive touch screen.

Wow, this is cool.
Do post if it works out..it will probably take some Dremeling, gluing, and soldering, but if it works, it would be like if tablet features were useful. W7 has multitouch support, right?

Win7 does. Mostly for its own limited set of gestures.
Re: Capacitive touch screen mod for X41 tablet?
Bad news folks. The full panel is too large to fit inside the lid of this laptop. Not sure about thickness, but definitely height and width. I should've looked closer at the spec sheet. Rookie mistake.
Sorry to get your hopes up.
