The other day, the day before I got a new laptop, I brought my X31 over to a friends house. My friend kicked over a cup of water and it spilt on to my X31 while it was closed. Instead of leaving it there, he picked up the laptop (d'oh) and I quickly told him to put it down.
I took out the battery, dried it and all. Brought it home and waited a few hours and turned it on. It was fine until I heard a clicking noise. Thinking it was the HD, and then having Windows freeze, I shut everything off and took out the battery and HD to let it dry over night.
The next morning I put it back together. Everything seemed to work fine and there was no problems. Until I realized sound isn't working. I restarted it, still no sound. Restore, still no sound. Windows device manager says there is no speaker detected.
Is my speaker dead? (hopefully) or is it the soundcard/motherboard or that sort?
The X31 is now my younger brother's, he always receives hand-me-downs and I feel really bad giving him a broken laptop so I am trying my best to fix it. Any suggestions?
Water spillage and then no speakers detected.

You're going to have to take that machine apart to see where the water damage is. It could be a fuse or any number of fried components. The fact that it's audio related 'might' make the process of isolating the failure easier. If water is still in the machine then simply waiting a few more days for it to dry might help too. Applying power without knowing if there was more water inside was a mistake.

"might" makes it hopeful. I'll be taking it apart tomorrow to see what I can do..!!
