X41 CF to IDE which should I choose ?

#1 Post by vladis » Sun Jan 17, 2010 2:12 pm

Hi all,

I am wondering about what exactly type of CF to IDE adapter should I choose.

for example, will this work ?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CF-to-1-8-44-IDE- ... 2a04145d56
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10886
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17834

take a look here, what adapters will be good for me ?
http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/se ... 20to%20ide

I want to use it with 8GB SanDisk Extreme IV CF card. + 16gb sdhc in SD slot.

cheers :)

The middle one won't work since it is the micro-IDE variety. The other two should work. Some have legs protruding pretty far and makes it difficult to insert. In any case, tape the backside with electrical tape.

OK, thanx for respond.

So I don´t have to solder anything there ? Somwhere here ( I don´t remember in which topic ) I read sth about correct voltage ( 3 or 5 V ) of CF to IDE card in case of soldering.

I have to use it with 233x and faster card right ?

No soldering for CF adapters. They don't have 3.3V regulators since CF cards work in both 5V and 3.3V slots.

Yes, 233x or faster cards to be reasonably usable.

OK and what about UMDA support ?
How can I find out which ide-cf adapters have it ?

I am looking for some 266x or 400x CF card and it will be shame if I can´t use that high speed.

If you look at the table posted on Dec 20th, you can see they work up to UDMA-5.
