Onenote, mini mike and sound on X41T
Onenote, mini mike and sound on X41T
I've finally managed to properly install XP tablet, the necessary drivers and onenote.
The one reason I bought this tablet was to be able to take notes in my class, and preferably as I'm recording the teacher.
But, there is a problem: because it wouldn't be really be possible to use another kind, I bought a mini mike 'olympus ME-52W' which I can plug directly into the mike entry. The problem is that even though I mute everything but the mike, there's an audio feedback that prevents me from having its volume high enough to record properly.
Would anybody know if there's a way to correct that?

Feedback from what? Is your speaker on?
I haven't tried using OneNote for recording, but in general feedback occurs when you're playing back (on a speaker) the same sounds that your microphone is picking up. If you turn off your speaker, there shouldn't be any feedback.
If you want to be able to hear what the microphone is recording (to set levels, etc), use a set of headphones or earbuds.

That's exactly my problem. According to the sound control center, I've muted everything but the mike. I don't understand why I have this feedback. The only explantation I can think up is that there is some kind of control that preempts the others somewhere, control where the speaker is not muted.
What I'm looking for is a sure way to kill the speakers when I wish to do so, as the standard way appears indefective.

Dear Trenien:
Maybe you can follow these steps to solve your problem:click the "SOUND" in the control panel, and then double click the "SPEAKER"in the popping menu,at last mute the "microphone"in the "LEVELS"item.
Hope it works!

As I said in my previous post, trying to mute things the standard way doesn't work. Furthermore, I want to be able to use the mike, as the idea is to record a lecture while taking notes in onenote. So thanks, but that's definitly not the solution I'm looking for.
Further development: As a stopgap measure, I put a dead plug in the headset port, which does kill the speakers. But, the last time I booted x41t, I had neither dead plug, nor mike, plugged in, and I had the worst feedback effect toward the end of the boot process. There is definitly something weird with the sound control.

I used to record audio and I used to get feedback - the hard drive caused most of my problems (when it was working hard the noise would increase). Find out if you are recording using the mix setting. Mix setting uses line in (which doesn't exist as a port) and mic. If you have both ports recording that can be the problem. Also try playing with the advanced settings for the mic. On my X41 there is a MIC boost option. you may also want to try a different audio recording program. I used to use the wave editor in Nero (full install package not the light retail version). After version 6 you could record in .mp3 format and this program has excellent controls for noise reduction.

Thanks. I'm going to give that a try.
