Window7 installation won't detect kingspec ssd *working now*
Hey so I just got a Kingspec SSD.
I'm trying to install windows 7 but it won't detect any drives.
The weird thing is that I can go to command prompt from the setup, and I can view my drive with all its files in there.
Heck even if I go to select driver to install for storage controllers, I can even browse the god [censored] hard drive for the drivers.
And what's the proper way to clone a drive for windows 7? I tried using a program, but I guess it was outdated since it didn't copy the boot info along with the drive signature.
I have an external hard drive to clone with.

In BIOS make sure that the SATA setting under Config is set to "Compatibility."
Current Thinkpads: 600E, 600X, 701C, A31 (Flexview), R51 (Flexview), R60, T42P (Flexview), TR50E, T60 (Flexview), X61s (Ultralight), Z61m (Ti) Non-Thinkpad: Toshiba 100ct

Oh I forgot to mention that I'm using an X41 Tablet.
I don't see a SATA compatibility option.
I just got acronis true image home 2010. It doesn't seem to want to work with the kingspec. I cloned the original 40GB onto an external drive with it. Now I want to clone from the external drive to the SSD, but when the SSD is plugged in, acronis true image crashes when trying to load. I have acronis on a bootable usb flash.

OK I finally got it working after working on it for 10+ hours going through the weirdest issues.
I used easeus todo cloning software to clone the external drive to the SSD. The software did not have a bootable drive, but there's a plugin for it for BartPE. I was able to get it to boot form a USB drive(first USB I tried did not boot).
After I finally got it to boot, the program actually didn't work. It said internal error. seconds after it starts copying. My brain just nearly imploded in frustration at this point.
There was this other cloning software on the BartPE that I tried previously but I know it doesn't copy the boot info to make it work for windows 7. But I tried to run through that to see if it can somehow change the file structure of the SSD to make it work.
and YES.. easeus worked after that.
The boot was still somewhat messed up after the clone, but after running through the windows 7 startup repair, I'm now in my laptop.
cliffs:
1. Old cloning software doesn't work for win7. you need one that copies the boot info and the hard drive signature
2. acronis somehow had some weird compatibility issues with my drive.
3. easeus todo is a free software and works great.

Glad you got the SSD issue sorted out and thanks for providing the details. I have a X40 project that I'm working on and the information will be helpful.
