oh and the skins that came with the true transparency program aren't too great.
Here's one that's very similar to the default one in win7

I tried the first suggestion, it resulted in a very attractive dark blue non-aero scheme on my X41 tablet.
It looks like unlocking the "msstyles" file allows further modification.
