X31 WiFi adaptor - Interchangeable?

#1 Post by jtt3011 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:27 am

Can any kind soul tell me whether the Intel 2100B and the Atheros wireless cards used in the X31 are interchangeable? My grandson has an X31 with an Intel card whose RF section appears to have bitten the dust. The XP control panel dialogue pronounces everything is fine with the card, but there is no sign of life from it on the network.

If I can sort that out, and obtain another compatible card, I may well have to come back to ask if anyone can point me to the thread about modifying the BIOS to cater for a non-IBM-supplied adaptor!

Thanks

The Atheros will work in the X31. You should not need to run the white list utility.

Thanks for that. I should've done some research of my own before posting that query

Now found a sealed pack "genuine IBM" item for £16.99 (better be), which will hopefully cure the problem forthwith (well. you try dealing with a 12 year old who is waiting for his toy to be fixed!).
