x31 stuck to x3 ultrabase

#1 Post by blink » Fri Feb 26, 2010 11:16 am

just bought an x3 ultrabase & appear to have got my x31 stuck to it  !
The lever is very stiff & im worried if i give it any more force it will break :(
Only really bought it because it came with a good battery & spare cd drive & was just testing it then planning to sell on. I Have an X3 of my own & the lever is not stiff & never had a problem?
Any help appreciated as i really dont want to have to sell my laptop/ultrabase together & am going away fairly soon & wanted to just take my x31 with me!
what a nightmare
Many Thanks for any advice, shared knowledge & wisdom is a wonderful thing.

blink, I'm affraid you've fallen victim to the famous X31 gets stuck to the base problem. This problem has been known for a long time and many have encountered it. Additionally, now you no longer have access to the X31 battery because it's trapped between the TP and base! What a nightmare? No, not really ... because chances are you only have to unlock the UB unlatching lever! Look on the bottom of the base, on the same side as the lever and see if the LOCK is UNlocked. :D

All the best!

I had this happen to me also!!

I had to use a hacksaw blade by itself and I cut between the x31 and the ultrabase, thus ruining the ultrabse but making the laptop usable as a ultralight again..

This was a last resort remedy.. :(

Good luck and hopefully you'll disconnect the laptop from the base...

The X3 ultrabase is notoriously flakely. So if at some time you find that your X31 is stuck to the base and it is NOT because of the locking tab underneath, you do NOT have to hack through the machine to get it off the base.

If you google around on this forum, there is a simple trick. You take a nylon filament (I used the nylon filament used for hanging picture frames, others have used dental floss) and then you work it in between the X31 and the ultrabase from the back and moving it towards the front. At some point, you will trip the two levers that hold the X31 to the base and it will release. Once removed, you can examine the ultrabase more closely and see if the lever mechanism is broken. I've had several of them break over time.
