X32 backside heat [solved]

#1 Post by fasteez » Sun Mar 07, 2010 11:25 am

Hi,

My X32 (2Ghz Dothan) seemed to be overheating so I locked it at 600MHz@0.764V, still the bottom side of the case stays really hot, while the keyboard side is really not warm at all. Usually parts around the heatsink goes hot on heavyduty, but now the only the backside (memory module, vga / parallel ports, heatsink bottom) are ... and the idea of all that heat in such endpoints doesn't feel good to me or even logical when being idle at fixed low speed.

This is a fresh Xp Sp3 installation + NHC + TPFanControl. I can't measure the temp but it's hotter than my x60 palmrest. The fan is not obstructed nor dusty. I wonder if Im being paranoid or if there's something I should do ..

BTW I read here and there users saying their x32 can run at full speed without going over 65 degrees.. I can't do that 30 minutes or I go over 80 degrees... that might be a hint for a heat conduction problem like bad thermal compound state.

Thanks in advance bye

Why exactly can't you measure the temperature? My X32 got warm, but no where near as hot as my X60 or X60t. Is it possible that the battery is heating up? Have you tried running it without the battery attached?
Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.

Hello,

I meant I don't have a precise instrument to measure heat. And it was really hotter than the x60 palmrest. And yeah I tried running the laptop with the bare minimum.

The conclusion is pretty lame.. another classic case with a little twist.
I recently noticed that the outgoing air stream was too thin. (<1cm instead of the 4cm width of the radiator). After a while I found a dense pile of dust hidden between the fan and the radiator (hidden inside the metal casing). The fan was blowing freely.. but not on the radiator, there's a space between the case and the radiator ..

It kinda make sense now, the cpu heat never got dissipated so it backfired all over where it could. Now it's running ~40 degrees celsius even without locking the freq. @ 600Mhz.. I feel like having a new laptop o_o

Thanks for your reply though

ps : [censored] I really love that little x32 ..
