4.5A Adapter with X41 Tablet?

#1 Post by RWDPLZ » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:20 pm

Will a Thinkpad 72W 4.5A AC Adapter (specifically 02K6751)work with the X41 Tablet? Still waiting to recieve my 02K6816 56W 3.5A adapter to arrive in the mail. Or is 56 Watts / 4.5 Amps too much for the X41 to handle?

The 4.5A (or 72W) adapter will work fine with the X41T. It's better (and safe) to use a power adapter which has a higher rating than what the laptop says it needs, simply because you will not be running the adapter near the limit of what it was designed for. Think of it this way: if the laptop draws a maximum current of 3.5A and you have a power supply that's rated to deliver a maximum of 3.5A, then you are running the AC adapter close to the design limits. The usual result is additional heat thrown off from the adapter and possibly a shorter lifespan. However, if you use a 4.5A supply, then the laptop is still going to only draw the 3.5A and you will not be straining the supply as much.

So basically this means I could use the Power Adapter from my T43p also with my X40 & X41?

Yes. The 16V 72W adapter can be used on any Thinkpad system which requires 16V, uses the same center-positive coax plug and is rated for using less than 4.5A. This basically covers everything in the A/R/T/X systems from just before the 60 series, back to at least the 600 series.

Thanks for the info Ray, I was always using each AC adapter with each TP, I was afraid the T43p's adapter would fry my Xs machines. Now I will leave the 72W adapter around and just plug the TP I want to use!
