Fan Problem with the X-Series

#1 Post by Schreddar » Tue Mar 01, 2005 10:59 am

Does the X-Series have a fan problem like the T-Series? The Fan runs all the time?
I am planing to buy a X40 and would just like to make sure the is no such problem.
Thx

Mine does not. It will come on when needed cool off a bit and then shut off. Most of the time it's not even on.

I have a new X40 (2371-H9U) and have noticed that the fan seems to stay on sometimes despite there being little or no activity. Not sure what triggers this. It's easy enough to get out of: suspend and come out of suspend. Otherwise this is a great little ThinkPad that I recommend to anyone looking for a readily transportable laptop. Nothing better AFAIK.

Fan Problem with the X-Series

#5 Post by mappoint » Thu Mar 31, 2005 6:48 pm

The fan stays on quite often especially when using the internal WLAN. Seems to be the situation as on T-Series machines: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... t=wlan+fan

But I discovered that the fan is also running more often when using AC even when I set CPU speed to very slow using the Battery MaxiMiser. The only explantion I have is that there is a setting for 'Intel Dual-Frequency Graphics Technology' when on battery (see Intel Extreme Graphics settings->energy settings). But I can´t not activate this for AC power. The check box ist greyed out. Can anybody activate this for AC power? Can anybody confirm this observations?

Thanks

Thomas

The HDD of my X40 was replaced 3 times, all discs created a high pitched noise giving me a headache. My colleguages didn't want to sit near me and my little [censored]...

In addition the airflow from the more or less always running fan created an extremly annoying wind noise.

IBM has given up, they claim the unit is fine (!!). I have returned the unit to the dealer where I bought it. They wanted to have a look themself.

It seems so that some X40's are quiet and some loud. I have (had) a Low voltage 1.2GHz machine.
