X41 - installing kingspec SSD can install

#1 Post by m3toocool » Thu May 27, 2010 10:22 pm

Hey there i have an x41 and i have no previous HDD but just a new kingspec 1.8 SSD 64gig and i want to install win 7 . I am able to get win7 setup until it just freezes with a blank screen and when i try to install xp. It tells me i cant format the dirve becuase there is an error or somthing. Do i need to somehow format the SSD before installing a new partition. My problem is how ??? i can find any type of adapter
thanks

Download a copy of Super fdisk and make a MBR on the drive first.

thanks ill get that and try it , but how do i hook it up to my desktop so i can do that. Is there any special adapter i need. I think once i get that i will be good. But i cant find a 44 pin 1.8 to normal IDE , becuase these pins are so close together.
thanks

You want o be very careful with that. While the original Hitachi 1.8 inch HDDs are 3.3V/5V and can be used in a 2.5 inch slots, many other 1.8 inch HDD/SSDs are 3.3V only nd can only be used in the X40/X41 slots. There are 44 pin IDE-ZIF adapters that have 3.3V regulator onboard but I haven't seen 44 pin to 44 pin adapters with regulators.
