Tablet hinge reliability
Tablet hinge reliability
Looked but could not find in existing messages.
How strong/reliable is the tablet hinge vs. a standard X41? If I don't have a burning desire for "tablet" mode, are their significant disadvantages to the tablet?
Thanks.

Re: Tablet hinge reliability
Mine is still fine after 6-year of use. Not as tight as in the beginning, but not an issue either.
Cheers.

Re: Tablet hinge reliability
I've had this X41T for about 6 months or so. I got it used from another forum member here who bought it new. The machine has never been serviced by IBM (at least according to them, I called). The hinge works great. No issues whatsoever. Considering how often I rotate between standard mode and tablet mode and the previous user was a student who used it in tablet mode a lot for college, it works just fine. I don't know how it feels compared to how it was when the machine was new, but it has never given me any cause for concern.
I have serviced many tablets in my life including Thinkpads and of course various Fujitsu's, Gateways, Toshiba's and so on. Most of them come with pretty robust hinge mechanism. I have never seen one wear out from normal useage, although it could happen. To be quite honest I would expect some other hardware to fail before the hinge on this machine goes south.

Thanks.
Looks like no need to shy away from tablet if I find one.
