X41 Tablet power connector

#1 Post by msands » Fri Jul 16, 2010 1:44 pm

Hello,
I have been experiencing some problems with power connector on my X41 tablet (and by the "power connector" I mean this small bit between the system board and the plug). It seems that on more and more frequent occassions it doesn't work. The laptop switches to the battery power, but it must have been happening for a while, that it starts killing the battery (lots of charges/discharges). I opened the case and it seems that some of the soldering is a bit loose... Is it possible to repair? I'm not the first to be found in iron in hand, but if pressed I think I can solder a thing or two. So if anyone has any experiences, comments, or better yet a photos how the thing should look like when connected properly I would really appreciate your input. The system is X41 Tablet 1869-5CU...

Welcome to the forum.

Most Thinkpads have a more compliant wire connector on the power jack. Unfortunately the T41 is a direct solder type. If you can see a solder crack then reflowing the solder should do the trick.

Thanks sjthinkpader,
I will try my way around it, but if someone could post or send a link of pictures of the power jack on system board I would really appreciate that. Really don't want to muck it up :-)

Alternative is getting a X4x dock.
