Broken X32 screen

#1 Post by stuartf » Sun Jul 25, 2010 10:09 pm

She was perched on the edge of the table and took a tumble. Booting it, the screen is divided by a jagged line, on one side it looks fine on the other side (right) it is sveral shades of grey and white; at the very bottom of the right side, the taskbar is visible. So what is needed here, I am new to this but see this as an opportunity to get my chops on the innards of this rig,

Thanks,

You need the LCD panel. Any X30, X31, X32 panels should work.

I personally hate disassembling lids, so for me it would be worth a few extras bucks to get a complete lid assembly rather than just an LCD panel. The most that would need to be transferred over would be the X32 display strip below the screen if you get a non-X32

I was highly tempted by this auction, a whole x31 screen with lid and cables, since it seems you live in US it's an even better deal.

careful, i have a couple of thinkpads with the same "little dark spot" that always starts appearing right above the inverter and is obviously some kind of heat damage. these screens with the problem are also quite dim due to age and use.

Oh I always assumed the inverter was located on the lower left corner, too bad if it's an "about to fry" item.. for that price even a dim screen would be nice I guess

Sorry then

sorry, guess i should have looked at the photo better, i now see they're referring to a little spot in the upper left side. my eye just caught the largish dim area at the center bottom although i don't know if the inverter is actually in the middle. and yes you're right, still a good price regardless of the faults...he could probably get more for his lid with the cracked screen in it :)

OK, so I snagged the LCD assembly lid off of Ebay and have the X32 in pieces, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to route the wireless cable in or around the hinge assembly. The Hardware Manual, page 113 says helpfully: :After attaching the LCD assembly, route the antenna cables as follows:" which is then followed by a blank page!

Does it go through the hinge assembly or what? Perhaps I got in over my head, but except for this, I think I am headed for success.

I likely did not describe my problem clearly, but you may be help to help HarryC. I have the complete lid, the top panel and the LCD so the reference on Page 128 and 132 do not apply. I have it back on the bottom of the machine and now need to install the "hinge assembly", the part that fills the gap immediately to the right of the left hinge. It is pictured on page 112 of the Hardware Manual.

Thanks for any help!

Look at the pic at the bottom of this page...the wireless cables go under the right side of the hinge cap.
