X41T slow to connect...forever identifying network

#1 Post by lakersgo » Sun Aug 15, 2010 9:32 pm

First off, the specs:

X41t Pentium M 1.5 GHZ
Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG
Vista SP2, updated

Well, the problem exists every time booting up the system, the network connection spends a load of time identifying the network. I got the Netgear WGR614v4 and have updated to the latest firmware. I've changed the anti-virus software from Microsoft security essential to Avira. I would get connected much faster if I disconnect and reconnect again..but that's just annoying.

I've also tried IBM connection management software to no avail. It doesn't make a difference at all. So is there any suggestion I can take from you guys? Thanks in advance!

How about assigning a fixed IP address? What is the encryption method you are using?

Actually the security type is WPA-PSK. Below is the log I got from IBM wireless software:

Connection status: Not connected
Cause: DHCP server not responding.
Error code: 031
Recommended action:
The DHCP server on this network failed to respond to the request your system made for automatic IP address configuration. To force another request, click Repair. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator.

If the problem persists, contact your network administrator and provide the troubleshooting information below.

Intel 2200 is problematic with WPA security. Changed to WEP and the problem is solved.

That has not been my experience.
