Thinkpad X32 Wireless not working at all (help)

I just installed Windows Xp on my old Thinkpad X32 (used to run Win 2000) via an USB Stick.

Everything seems to be working apart from the Wifi. If I press FN + F5 (Wifi) the Antenna light doesn't even blink.

I also noticed that the support page has 3 different Wireless drivers

my model is called Thinkpad X32 2673M4G, but I can' really figure out wich wireless card is in that exact model
so I tried installing all drivers.. too no avail :/

hope the wireless thing isn't broken!

Oh and I forgot.

There are 3 yello questionmark devices

1. PCI Modem (Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV)
2. Video Controller (didn't install the graphics driver yet)
3. Unkown ( Device ID ACPI\IBM0068\...)

According to the support page, it's an intel wifi card.

Could it be that the Wireless Part ist totally broken (in a physical sense), since the wireless symbol light isn't even lighting up when I press the
key combination to activate it?

because I already installed the Modem and VGA card and the Unkown device seems to be the a thinkpad powermanagment thing.

is that something that i maybe can repair? anybody know where the card is located?

If you can, download Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD, if it doesnt see the WiFi Card (it's detected automatically on mine) then it's probably a hardware problem.

I've never done it but I think the card is not really hard to change, it's just under the keyboard (~4 screws to remove)

uninstall those 3 drivers and instal lenovo's system update. it will scan the system and give you drivers for any components that are missing. do yourself a favor and download the drivers one at a time. sometimes you have to go to where the drivers are downloaded and actually find the exe file and click on it to actually install it. most times the drivers are just downloaded and not actually installed. if you download all the drivers from update it could get a little confusing so i would do it one at a time. also, if you go to microsoft windows update, sometimes there will be hardware updates and they actually had a driver for my wireless card that worked.

I have had wireless issues with both an Intel 2100B and the Intel 2200G cards in the X31's I own. They seem to not like the heat very much, after several hours of use. Once the cool off, they go back to acting normally.

i can agree on the heat thing. one thing i did do right though. i downloaded tpfancontrol version 21 in an x30 and in 3 x32s and it really does a good job of keeping the heat managed. x3s certainly run hot.

@topmahof: just in case TPFC v.62 is the latest release.

@docbot: if it's heat related, check any dust in the fan and the fan copper grid on the side. Then install NHC to undervolt and underclock the cpu and TPFC to tune the fan speed.

thanks, i tried some of the newer versions but couldn't get them to work right for me. version 21 works great for me. i have a friend who has an x60 and he can't get tpfancontrol to work at all. you wouldn't happen to know if one of these newer versions will work in an x60, would you?

(comes with english language presentation option out of box) I just installed it 2 minutes, it's a tpfc alike, cuter though, give it a shot.

Germans ThinkPaders are quite active it seems. Better sprache deutsch

the other day i put windows 7 professional on my x32 and my old tpfanv21 didn't work so i tried vs62. that one makes it run hotter than the bios control. so i used your link and installed the german fan control and it works perfect. it also works on my friend's x60. that's a nice little program it's just i don't understand german at all, ach! i figured out the adjustments and controls though, thanks for that link. very simple to use. do you know if that can be used on any make of computer or just thinkpads? like i said, i don't understand german at all.

A nice thing about the german fan control program is that it speeds the fan in a smooth curvy way.

Actually all my laptops are thinkpads (scary fetichsim). Try to run it on other brands of laptops if you can, always usefull to know.

i agree, my 32 stays at about 57, rarely gets above 63, and it is smooth. all my laptops are also tp's. i have 9 at last count. and you're right, it's starting to get scary. i started off with dells and i sold them all to my neighbors. i might try to put that fan control in some of them and see if it works.
