My first X31 was recently killed by chinese power adapter. I bought another 2 of them and both work now (XP Pro) but I have couple (and same) problems on both:
1. No matter which driver I download and install, Device Manager keeps complaining about "Other Devices" - Network Controller": "The drivers for this device are not installed".
I am already sick of it...I think I tried all drivers available on Lenovo support site (for X31).
My questions: is Ethernet Controller same thing as Network Controller ???
What is Intel(R) PRO/1000MT Mobile Connection ? - is that wifi card driver ?
Where is wifi card fitted on X31 ? Under the keyboard ?
Thanks for help
X31 Network Controller, Ethernet Controller, wifi card...
Re: X31 Network Controller, Ethernet Controller, wifi card...
Random idea, maaayyybe the Network Controller refers to the Firewire port.
It can be used for networking; on my x32, for instance, there's a Firewire device in the network group called "1394 network card"
The Pro/1000MT seems to be normal wired ethernet; wireless and 1000(I guess it's Mbits per sec) don't belong together for the moment.
IIRC the wifi adapter is located under the keyboard, on the left side, just beside audio connections.
Try a software (http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download is one possibility) to read the actual wifi card model type, then try to find drivers outside of lenovo/ibm website. If you manage to install wifi drivers but windows still bothers you with "unknown network controller" you can disable the device in the device manager.
Good luck

there's a couple of things you could try. go to microsoft, windows update, choose custom and see if there's an update for hardware. open it and you might find your drivers. windows update will install them for you.
or you could downoad lenovo's system update and it will scan your system and it should come up with drivers for you. system update will download the drivers but it might not install them. you might have to go into device manager and manually update the driver and point the device to the folder where the driver was downloaded to.
