IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet VS Apple iPad

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Mon Dec 13, 2010 1:51 am

I figured I could add this to witch is better to a compare. As every ThinkPad owner knows the X41 Tablet "2005" is old now. Im going to use it in the VS as I own the X41 Tablet. but for those who wants a todays. you can simply add the X201 Tablet.

So what is the diffrence between the two? I only own 3 Apple PCs and getting to know alittle about Apple. from the iPad I noticed is you get no keyboard, but a flat slate screen that is a large version of what looks like a iPhone. As for me I like having a keyboard such as in cellphone wise I still use my Motorola Razer V3m over the new smart/touch screen phones.

So is everything today going to be touchscreen? I even notice the new ThinkPad T series even have a touch screen.

Each has its own merits and demerits. If you have some specific requirements, others can chime in more easily.

For example, as you've mentioned, the X41T has a keyboard, so it's likely a better choice if lots of text inputting is required. OTOH, the iPad is lighter and probably feels more comfortable as an ebook device.

Or if you want to play Angry Birds... : )

Cheers.

how about capability? Does the x41t do multi-touch? I've also heard that touch support in win7 might be more of a checklist feature than something that is well developed? True or false?

Nope

False IMHO.

Having done a fresh Win7 install in my new X41T the last weekend I can say that touch capabilities were working out of the box, but in order to get the special buttons working (screen rotation and the rest of the buttons on the screen bezel), you have to additionally install Lenovo System Update and select the proper option (don't have my X41T with me at the moment).

My 0,02 cents...

The X41T doesn't support "touch" at all. You have to use a stylus to interact with the screen.

Cheers.

The ipad is not pressure sensitive but the X41t is. If you bear down on the stylus, the dot become bigger. ipad is a consumer appliance but the X41t (and other Thinkpad tablets) is a professional tool.

iPad is really a blown up version of the iTouch, the iOS is not a full featured operating systems. If you just want to browse webs, watch some movies (have to be converted first) and read some ebook on the go, then the iPad is hard to beat due to the longer battery time and portability.

However, if you need to do some Office related apps and run some windows apps, then X41t would be the better choice.

Also, the iPad screen is design for use with your fingers, while the X41t LCD is designed around the wacom input device.
