X31 Dead - but not completely

#1 Post by fasterbybike » Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:17 pm

I have inherited an X31 (2672 GBA). It appears to be dead but is not completely.

I have removed the battery, HDD, RAM, CMOS battery, modem and wifi card. I have tried the trick of pressing the power button 10x 1 sec and 1x 30 second with no power applied to reset the memory.

Now, when I reconnect the AC adapter and press the power button I get a brief illumination of the numlock, capslock, & power LEDs adjacent to the power switch and the battery & suspend LEDs on the bezel. After approx 1 second all LEDs extinguish except for the power LED. The fan spins. There are no error beeps and the LCD does not show anything :(

The power button will turn the machine off and on again.

Is it a goner and should be parted out for spares or is there anything else I can try ?

Thanks

David

I have the same problem with my X31. What does it mean its dead? Motherboard? CPU? GPU? Not worth replacing the MoBo?

Did you try starting without the battery?
