Low Battery Capacity (Wh)

#1 Post by Brian10161 » Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:19 pm

Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while, but that just goes to show you how reliable these little computers are I guess.

Anyway, I bought a brand new battery a while back, and it's a genuine Lenovo. I plugged it in and it said that it was never used (0 Cycle count) and it was about 8 or 9 months old. I have so far put about 9 charge cycles on it, and the battery capacity has decreased by quite a bit. design is 27Wh and current is about 23Wh. The battery seems to last about 2.5 hours or so. My original 8 cell is 6 years old and is at roughly 50% capacity and seems to last a lot longer, 4 hours or so.

I am mainly wondering if it's worth doing a battery recalibration on this one or if I should just leave it alone. Plus, I'm just wondering what you all think.

Thanks!

I would do a recalibration, it should not deteriorate that fast. On my T61, with a newer battery (more cycles), I had lost a fair bit of capacity, and it brought it back. (I am now above the design capacity :D ). It cannot hurt anything by doing a recalibration, and that should help your capacity.

The recalibration is not even done, and it's already back up to 27Wh. Go figure lol

Thanks for the reply.

There is always some inaccuracy with the gauge. Jumping within 4Wh is normal even between consecutive charge-discharge cycles. The actual capacity is somewhere in between.

Yeah, I haven't had a laptop that reports that information due to not having the software to do so. So, I don't know what is normal. The battery seems to be fine though, it's lasting a little longer now which is nice.
