X41 Tablet doesn't recognize that it's been unplugged

#1 Post by ReCreate » Tue Feb 22, 2011 12:35 pm

Hello, Yesterday there was an incident with my tabletpc that ended up spilling a fluid all over it. Parts of the mainboard got engulfed in it. I had removed power ASAP and proceeded to opening it and cleaning/rinsing everything out, then i placed the board in a low-temp(140-160F) mini-oven to dry.(which seemed to have worked well)

After re-assembling the tabletpc and testing it to make sure it still works, it seems to work fine. Only the internal speaker doesn't work(i might have forgotten to reconnect it), and for some reason, It always thinks its on AC power. When i connected the battery, it wasn't connected to AC power, yet the "battery charging" light turned on and then started blinking, which is supposed to indicate "the battery is fully charged". later after booting into the OS, i found that its not the light screwing up, the computer actually thinks its on AC power when it isn't. Now this isn't really fatal, but it can cause a lot of problems with battery life. :c

Does anybody know what might have caused this? The only parts of the board that got engulfed was around the area of where the thinkpad logo is on the casing. And tiny bits around where the SD card reader is. (which still works fine, and its on the opposite side to the DC in)

Thanks, Re

I've not had the opportunity to open up my X41T to know where the circuits are located but with the liquid spill, there's a chance that something has shorted out causing the laptop to think it always has an AC adapter attached. You could try taking out the motherboard and gently scrubbing the board on both sides with a soft toothbrush. Or, if the system charges the battery normally and no other symptoms are noted, just leave things as they are.

The battery does seem to charge normally, but since it cant recognize if its on battery or otherwise, it will cause the battery life to decrease significantly. :( And it also doesnt show the time remaining. So i would have to use it blind.

It seems that if i loosen one of the screws near the connector, one that is for the keyboard. It can properly detect if it is on battery or otherwise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7hI2Flv2xg here's a video demonstrating it.

This is rather odd. As putting pressure does not affect it at all. Only the screw does.

Very interesting. Keyboard error 0211 is also solved by removing a screw.

In this case, it was just slightly loosening a screw. Not removing it.

Double-check the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the proper lengths of each screw. You may have inadvertently swapped some of them around.

Nope, that isn't it. They're correct.
