I just fried my motherboard with a ZIF to IDE adapter

Yup. Everything worked great until I put the upper case back on. Then the power button wouldn't do anything anymore. I looked under the upper case and saw that it was coated with a metal plate along with metallic tape.. and it was touching the pins on the top of the zif adapter.

Sorry to hear that. Yes, a piece of tape is required if the pins are left long.

I would take the laptop apart and check all of the fuses you can find on the board with DVM.

Thanks for the tips.
I'm not sure how to find a fuse. Heh I never even knew mobos had one. But I google searched for it and found pictures of them, but looked around and didn't find a broken looking one. Although there are a lot of stuff that's covering the board to remove and it looks like a lot of trouble. Image

Anyways, I just landed this off ebay :D

A blown fuse would not appear broken. You need to use a multimeter to check for continuity across the fuse.

Bit expensive to just repair one X41T
Either way, you now have plenty mobos to do a SATA mod.
