X31 Wireless upgrade headache.

#1 Post by StarGehzer » Tue Apr 05, 2011 4:11 pm

I bought a wireless card for my X31 hoping to get some better speeds. After installing it the computer is dead. I plug in the charger and the light doesn't come on. I push the power button and there is the briefest flash of light from the indicator light, then it's gone & nothing happens. I pull the card, and everything is fine.
The card I bought is FRU 27K9932 (http://cgi.ebay.ca/IBM-Thinkpad-Intel-2 ... 2c5b7c6436)
The card that was in the unit is slow, but works. (sorry, I don't have the FRU # for it)
I'm think the new card must be defective, but I thought I'd enquire here to see if anyone has any other ideas before I contact the seller about replacing it.

All kidding aside, don't reinstall that card.
It's real hard to install the card wrong, its possible but not likely. I have some old "B" cards Ill send you one for a couple of dollars postage. I know they are good, and will test it before I ship it.

Let me know
Ron

Thanks Ron, I do have a B card that works.. I have 2 problems with it.. 1 it's slow, lol, and 2, it won't connect to a secure wireless signal, either wep or wpa.

I'm hoping the vendor will fix things.
& BTW, before someone mentions it... the BIOS is the newest version. (though the system never gets that far with this card installed)

Your on the right track, if the other cards will work. The new one should work also.

For what it is worth, any 2200 bg card will work, with the 1802 hack

Replacement card received and installed. I had a bit of trouble finding a driver that worked, but I'm up & running great now!
Only problem now is... I broke the middle 'mouse' button on my keyboard while removing it. :(
Hopefully I can find a seller & won't have to buy a whole new keyboard. For now, the old button is scotch taped in place. LOL.

I saw that ad and wrote to him asking...
For my X31 I need the center 'mouse' button, (with the blue line on it). I'm not sure if the "type code" matters for this key.
I'll need the key and the rubber button underneath.
Can you supply this? Do you need more information from me?
He replied...
no
I wasn't sure which question he was answering. And gave up on him.

PM your zipcode. I have a couple of spare X3? keyboards floating around. I think the last thing I shipped to Canada USPS expedited was less than $20usd. Ill send the whole keyboard for the cost of postage. Mind you it wont be perfect, but it will be perfectly usable for what you need.

Great, I found the package in the back of my wife's car, DAYS after she promised it was to be sent. Anyway, all's well.

Enjoy
