Hi!
I'd like to speed up my X31 and I'd like to boot from a 32Gb Compact Flash drive, because it's much cheaper than an SSD. Is this possible? And will the speed improvement be visible?
thanks!
Can my X31 boot from CF ?

Nope
Been tried....................
Be honest the throughput of the cheaper CF really stinks.
That said, a light version of Winblows or Linux, coupled with a 7200 rpm HDD, and the system will scream!
Im running vanilla uBuntu on one of mine, and it consistently slaughters the start time of my other Windoze machine. The doze machine is the faster of the 2 CPU wise, and has more memory also!

Re: Can my X31 boot from CF ?
I've seen a tutorial on thinkwiki about how to boot from a CF drive and it turns out that I can boot from a CF drive as long as I replace my HDD with a 2.5" PATA to CF adapter.
A dual CF-IDE Hard Drive Adapter from Addonics is $22 ; a 32GB CF Transcend Extreme-Speed 400x is $96 and the cheapest 2.5" SSD IDE 32 GB PATA 32GB MLC SSD is $90
so they cost almost the same.
Would I be better off buying an SSD?

Re: Can my X31 boot from CF ?
Sorry, I misunderstood. I assumed you were speaking of the existing CF slot in the X31.
You are correct with an adapter, you can boot from a CF in the HDD slot. My other warning still stands. The throughput on the CF can be horrible.
