I have a hairline crack at the bottom, right of my X31's screen. It looks like there's a covered screw there and the crack is on both sides of the "screw". It does go to the bottom edge of the plastic and to the screen edge above the screw.
The best thing to do would probably be to dismantle the LCD panel and epoxy the crack. And force any epoxy possible into the crack and epoxy a pin across the crack on the inside if space allows for a pin.
I've never dimantled an LCD panel and don't really want to do it. Is there some tipical solution?
I don't abuse this laptop. The most bang it gets is when I pass it over the center arm rest to the passenger seat in my car. I plop the bottom edge down and then lay it flat. Ther's not a lot of weight to my shoulder bag.
There has been a crack at the bottom, left corner of the palmrest towards the user for sometime. It's held solid enough that I haven't bothered with it. I wold do the pin fix or smear something over the surface or replace the palmrest if it became necessary.
I do wish to move on to an old, dualcore X-series TP but this is my beloved X31.

I have a crack in an x32 on the palmrest just like yours. (right in front of the firewire port) Mine came in and turned to the front and it looked like a piece of the palmrest was going to come off. I used this stuff. I work on hot tubs and I've tried every epoxy known to fix leaks and I keep coming back to this stuff. I even fixed a steam radiator with this. When mixed, it's a dark gray, you can mix a little black model paint in with it to match the thinkpad. The working time is a 1/2 an hour so you can work with it awhile, but it takes 24 hours to cure. So don't mess with it for a day. You can put it on the surface and when you get it smooth and everything covered, press a piece of saran wrap on it and it will dry smooth. You don't need a lot, just enough to cover the crack. It'll make the plastic stronger, you can even drill and tap this stuff and it will hold a bolt.
It will stop the crack from cracking any more. It sticks like bubble gum.

Re: Help/Suggestions with Cracks on X31
I'd try "super glue", thin quick-drying cyanoacrylate typically. Hold parts together, re-apply.
As for crack in "screen", are you talking of the black bezel around the LCD panel?
Both removable with much effort, look for my post on getting the bezel off a basic x41, but x31 is likely different than x40/x41.
