which thinkpad X Series has COM port
Hello, I'm not new to this forum but I have been gone for a long time. Now I'm looking for some small machine for my car diagnostic, it must run Win XP but nothing more, the diagnostic utilities are just simple programs. The problem is I need a COM port, so what is the latest X series machine which has COM port? I know the X6x ultrabase has one, but that is not what I want. I will also accept any other advice as what to get if not an X series, but the 12" screen would be very handy in the car. Thank you for yout thoughts.

There's no X machine with a serial port onboard.
The T23 and T30 come to mind for that.
Or get a USB-toSerial adapter such as this one: http://www.aztekcomputers.com/ET800P-GE ... 33813.html

Very glad to see you back, old friend...
...you sure were missed...
My advice would be to get a cheap ToughBook and call it a day...all the "rugged" ones still have the serial port...

hmm, the toughbook option seems very interesting, it looks like a machine that would finally last a while for me

Re: which thinkpad X Series has COM port
Note that doesn't mention support for Windows Vista or 7; most likely it is the ArkMicro/"Huge Pine" converter chip. I'd recommend looking for something with a Prolific or FTDI chip which both have better driver support. Even if you use XP or lower right now at some point you'll surely want to use it with newer OSs.RealBlackStuff wrote: Or get a USB-toSerial adapter such as this one: http://www.aztekcomputers.com/ET800P-GE ... 33813.html
(I've got all three types; used to manage various switches and EMC storage systems.)

Re: which thinkpad X Series has COM port
Well, some of the diagnostic tools I want to use (I have '92 nissan) do have reported problems with these USB-COM adapters, so I want a laptop with a physical COM port.
