I have a rather old IBM ThinkPad X40 which has been working flawlessly since the day I got it. Now after not using it for about 6 months, I'm experiencing weird wireless network problems.
I can connect to any wireless network, with or without security and no matter if I'm running Windows XP, Windows 7 or Ubuntu. But common for all OS' is that I can't connect to the internet.. Not without plugging in a LAN cable. So it says I'm connected to the wireless internet, on Ubuntu and Windows XP it doesn't say anything about "No or limited connectivity" but it does on Windows 7, where it says "No Access". My router doesn't spot my X40's wireless networkcards MAC address, eventhough I can access the router through my X40 (192.168.0.1) but it doesn't show on the MAC Filtering tab.
This is the same problem nomatter what network I connect to, I can access the router (if it's private/a friends house, not in school) but the X40 is not listed with the other MAC addresses currently on the wireless. The second I pop in a cable, it works flawlessly. It doesn't detect any problems with the wireless network card, but says my router might have problems allowing devices to connect to it. Though I have 5 laptops who connect flawlessly, an android smartphone and I've tried with friends laptops who also connect without any problems. Plus the fact that the X40 has the problem on whatever network I connect to.
I've updated drivers, both tried through the OS and by downloading the latest ones on IBMs website. No luck.
Any ideas to what this might be?
Considering the age and specs of an X40 I'm not really sure if it's worth it to purchase a new network card, plus how can the network card be faulty if it CAN connect to stuff? This is troubling my mind an awful lot.
Please help
Thanks ever so much
Figu
