X32 - What should the next laptop
X32 - What should the next laptop
All,
I am a very happy X32 owner (2Ghz, 2GB).
Thinking about my next laptop (better cpu & memory)....
My questions,
1. Is there a model that will allow me to keep my batteries, charger, base station etc ?
2. What are the models with up to 13" screen, that are recommended ?
I would love to hear others opinion.
Thanks - Yaron.

Unfortunately there are no upgraded models that will allow you to keep the parts you mentioned. Each X series family (X2x, X3x) has its own dock series as well.
As far as replacements go, the X60/61 has a similar screen size and ratio to your X32. I personally moved from an X32 to an X60 amd still love it. Be advised that the X6x serious runs substantially hotter.

Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.

Thanks !
Few more Q's if I may....
Is it true that the X60/X61 come only in a tablet version ?
Is the temperature issue also true for the X61 & if so what should be the next model I should look at ?
Between the intel & amd versions of the x60/x61, what is recommended ?
Thanks -Yaron.

Nope. You currently have:drukman wrote:Is it true that the X60/X61 come only in a tablet version ?
- X60
- X60s
- X60T (Tablet)
- X61
- X61s
- X61T (Tablet)
I'm afraid yes. The next generation models after the X6s would be the X200 (12") or X300 (13"). I have an X60 which gets hotter than my X4x machines, but I personally find the heat issue overrated, but it's of course a matter of personal taste.drukman wrote:Is the temperature issue also true for the X61 & if so what should be the next model I should look at ?
AFAIK X6x come only with Intel CPUsdrukman wrote:Between the intel & amd versions of the x60/x61, what is recommended ?
Hope this helps!

Re: X32 - What should the next laptop
If I understand correctly there isn't any X60/X61 model that skipped the warming problem & all will get warmer than the x32 - right ?
If so, that's a bit of a problem because the x200/x300 are priced much higher than the X60/X61.
I will have to check if the price difference is justified.
Generally speaking if we put a side the warming issue, do you think that the X200/X300 are much better than the X60/X61 ?
Thanks again (!) - Yaron.

Correct, but again I personally find this discussion about the heat overrateddrukman wrote:If I understand correctly there isn't any X60/X61 model that skipped the warming problem & all will get warmer than the x32 - right ?
I haven't followed the X200 prices lately in comparison to the X6x's so I cannot comment. I expect the difference to be smaller everyday. X300's are surely more pricey. I'd recommend you to check the marketplace or Ebay.drukman wrote:because the x200/x300 are priced much higher than the X60/X61
The latter being newer generations, they have more powerful CPUs, they support more (and faster) RAM and support SATA-II for faster hard drives and SSDs. Now the definition of "better" will depend on what you need them for. For web browsing, emailing, easy office tasks and movie watching, an X6x will be enough.drukman wrote:Generally speaking if we put a side the warming issue, do you think that the X200/X300 are much better than the X60/X61 ?
Take also in consideration that the X200&X300 have 16:9 format, while the X6xs have 4:3, some people don't like wide formats.
What are you planning to do with your new thinkpad? Maybe we can help more knowing this...
My 0.02 cents!

Re: X32 - What should the next laptop
I will use my laptop for s/w development & sites managment.
Looks like I will go with the X200/x300 (16:9 doesn't bother me).
I guess they are dual core, ddr3, & you mentioned sata2 (would love to see someday one with esata port....).
If I managed till now with my X32....-)).
My first priority will be the cache size + ram.
Are they both 2M + 4G ?
If you think I should prefer a specific model, go a head & let me know.
Thanks A-L-O-T !!!!
Yaron.

Re: X32 - What should the next laptop
You're welcome! I have no experiences with X200/X300, but I've read the the X300 have a less powerful CPU.
Regards!
I've seen single cores were offered too. For detailed information of the X200 series you may start checking the Lenovo site: click here!drukman wrote:I guess they are dual core
On a side note, X61x systems will also support +4GB RAM.drukman wrote:My first priority will be the cache size + ram.
