X41 tablet BIOS on non-tablet X41

#1 Post by Bibin » Sat May 21, 2011 1:49 pm

I noticed that my X41 runs the LCD at 50hz (even with an IPS LCD from an X41 tablet) while the X41 tablet I had before ran its LCD at 60hz. For what I do it's imperative that my LCD is at 60hz. Since the video BIOS is in the main BIOS, would I have issues flashing the X41 tablet BIOS to an X41? If not, it looks like the X41 tablet motherboard would fit in here. Has anyone tried this with any tips?

See this thread. I bought a MB for my X41 on eBay not knowing that it was actually an X41T MB. It works, but with some minor issues, like not going to sleep when the lid is closed. I just confirmed that the display is running 1024x768 at 60 Hz using the X41's original LCD. Again, this is an X41 system with an X41T motherboard in it. No mechanical issues with the install.

I do not believe it is possible or even desirable to try to put the X41T BIOS on an X41. (Experts please correct me if this is wrong.)

As for the lid close switch, on the motherboard the solder pads are indeed there. I wonder if I could solder the switch's pins here and have it work.

The MB I bought has the connector for the lid switch, but the BIOS ignores it. I verified that operating the switch opens and closes the circuit all the way to the solder on the MB, but it does not function. :( I wondered why IBM would even have that connector on the MB. Perhaps the MB is the same as an X41 up to a certain point in manufacturing, and for the spares supply, they only deviate at the last few steps. Not wanting to risk bricking the unit, I have not attempted to flash the X41 BIOS over the X41T BIOS. It works, such as it is, and I don't want to mess with it.
