x20 Battery replacement

#1 Post by Przemek » Thu Jun 09, 2011 5:37 pm

Hello everyone,

CMOS battery and Lithium ION akku in my old TP x20 (2662-11G) died yesterday. I was lookig for brand new original parts, but here, in Poland, couldn't find them.

Original CMOS: FRU 02K6715 or 02K6716. Found only:
FRU P/N: 02K7078, 02K6572, 92P0991, 92P0986
IBM P/N: 08K8050, 02K6541, 02K7087, 02K7075, 08K8216

Original akku: FRU 02K6652, NOM 14.4V, 1.6 Ah
Whitenergy's replacement has different default voltage (10.8 V).

Is it possible to buy listed parts? Will everything be working fine?

Best regards,
Przemek

The CMOS batteries haven't fundamentally changed since the X20 so yes you can use those other FRU's. As far as the replacement battery, I have never dealt with Whitenergy so I can't comment. I would be wary of voltage differences though.

The X20 series had both 4-cell and 6-cell batteries.
4×3.6=14.4 V
3×3.6=10.8 V (two parallel groups of three)

No need to change anything. Any X20 ThinkPad can use any X20 battery. The only difference is it will run longer with the 6-cell, and it will be more heavy.

I think that's last question. I have 56W ac adapter and I'm wondering if it's enough to charge new battery (capacity 4800 mAh).

Yes, it will charge and work just fine. A bigger power supply (72 W) will not make any difference.

Well, purchased a brand new battery 6-cell, 4400 mAh yesterday. When I plug the AC adapter, Power Management shows that charging is going to take more than 4 hours to fully charged, battery is charged to 77% then.

Now, battery is fully charged. I think that was some kind of issue with software.
2.50h remaining when wifi is turned on.
