X31 motherborad exchange

#1 Post by don » Sun Jul 10, 2011 6:04 am

Hey folks,

how long does it take for you guys to exchange a motherboard in an X31?

I’m considering to fix my old ThinkPad but only if it’s not going to take many hours. I have pretty good experiences with work on these things.

Thanks,

Don

If you have done a motherboard swap on other ThinkPad models, the X31 won't be much different. If you've never done an X31, you will want to follow the HMM, and be careful, which will take a little extra time. Be extra careful not to break the keyboard bezel/palm rest. Takes me about half an hour on a familiar model, and about an hour my first time.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Hey Neil,

thank you for your reply. Totally forgot about the HMMs.. good hint. I'll give it a shot and get a mobo from ebay.
