X40 beeps when ultrabase connects

Recently bought a X40 with ultrabase. When the X40 is placed/seated in the ultrabase steady beeping begins. The ultrabase CD/DVD R/W functions normally, but the beeping does not stop. There is no error message on screen. What is it trying to tell me?

Switch the laptop off, before placing it on the base.
