x41 tablet mem spec / can I use 2GB? plz advise ...
Spec for my x41 tablet says ...
•PC4200 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Two (DDR2) Technology
•System has on board (soldered) base memory and 1 memory slot
•Expandable with SODIMM module to a maximum of 1.28MB or 1.536MB
It came w/512MB and I did add 1GB for the 1.536 total.
Can I safely up this to 2GB, e.g. with this ...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IO ... s_prod_img
... do I need to do something to BIOS?
This is long out of warranty.
I just don't want to buy what will be useless.
Thanks for time / advice.

Have a 2GB module installed and working. Of course the total memory usable by the OS is still 2GB, instead of 2.5GB.
Cheers.

Of course you can, but as someone said the max memory available will be 2 Gb.

Any guidance on speed?
The HW manual says PC4200 (=DDR2-533), 5300 is more common.
Scoped memory in Best Buy yesterday, 2GB sold out, lots of 1GB on the shelf ($20, 2GB probably $35 if they had it, given prices for desktop size modules).

You can use DDR2-5300 in the system. It will clock down to DDR2-4200.

Re: x41 tablet mem spec / can I use 2GB? plz advise ...
I have now run four RAM modules in x41s:
- the original 512MB from Lenovo
- another Lenovo 512MB, option 73P3842/FRU 74P3843, actually an HYS64020HDL from a mfr whose logo is an i overlaying a backwards D, PC2-4200.
- a 512MB HP 432969-001 one from another computer, actually HyHynix HYMP564S64CP6-Y5, PC2-5300S
- a 1GB, IBM 40Y7734 (actually NANYA NT1GT64UH8D0FN-3C, PC2-5300S)
- a 2GB, Crucial CT25664AC800.K16F, aka DDR-640, that’s -6400 which is probably high for an x41 but it appears to work. http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs. ... 25664AC800
(Crucial recommend slower such as -5300 (CT550382), and of course only 1GB, for the x41. I may switch to the IBM 1GB as I bought two of them surplus at a good price).
Does anyone know if Windows 7 would use more than 1.5GB of memory? (IIRC the 1.5 limit is a combination of BIOS and OS limits. IIRC people have run Windows 7 on x41s, which may be a push given the old processor. The answer may depend on whether one runs 32 bit , though my limited understanding is that 32-bit Windows can go at least to 3GB which is probably enough for an x41, or 64 bit version.)
Crucial has a bit of a buying guide for
SSDs: http://www.crucial.com/support/ssd/ssd_ ... guide.aspx REF, and another for RAM.

With W7 you are only concerned about the hardware limitations for RAM.
W7 will use whatever you 'throw' at it.
In an X41 you can use max. 2GB (1x2GB) RAM, regardless of what is 'onboard'.
3GB is only a chipset limit in T60/R60/X60/Z61 machines.

I recently came across a T60p with the T7600 CPU, 2313-L8U. This version will support 64bit OS hence larger than 3.xGB RAM space. I think we can say there are no support for 64bit OS for X4x and earlier machines.

Don't try to confuse the issue!
Even with a 64-bit CPU and a 64-bit OS, the T60 or T60p can NOT support more than ~3GB RAM, even if you put in 4GB.
This is a chipset limitation, not a CPU limitation!

I didn't test it while I had this T60p. The user elected to go with WindowsXP and I didn't have 2x 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs on hand.

Re: x41 tablet mem spec / can I use 2GB? plz advise ...
Hello all. From what I am reading, it appears the most ram memory for the X41 is 2gb.
That "total" includes the soldered in mem, plus what is in the one available slot. So if I am using a memory stick that says, "1 GB PC2 -4200 CL4 1.8 volt 128 Meg x 64", then I have 1 gig of ram "Plus" what ever the soldered in memory. I am guessing it to be 512(meg?). So my first questions is:
QUESTION 1) Is my total ram memory for this X41, "1.512" GB?
QUESTION 2) Does/has anyone increased the memory that is soldered on the motherboard? (Is it even available and would it be possible. I am guessing is most likely surface mount and not easy too do).
QUESTION 3) "IF" the "1 GB PC2 -4200 CL4 1.8 volt 128 Meg x 64", is truly "1 gig", would I be looking for the same type memory that is "2 GB", AND after I installed would I have too change the Bios?
I am a new member on this great site, so if I am asking or "re-hashing" a "Deadhorse", PLEASE excuse me. I enjoy learning the tech end of these PC's.
THANKS TO EVERYONE!

Welcome to the forum!
You can install a 2GB DIMM, BIOS will show 2.5GB but only 2GB will be addressable/usable.
