X41: Can one boot from the SD?

#1 Post by shedyed » Sat Sep 03, 2011 1:43 pm

I have an X41 Tablet. I was wondering whether the SD drive can be the boot drive; when I press F12 at startup, it lists the USB, the HDD, and the LAN. When I go further into other boot choices, the additional ones mention USB CD/DVD and USB floppy--no mention at all of the SD.

Booting into linux I see a message saying I have a dated BIOS, but I figure if a BIOS update won't even let me 'see' the SD as a boot option, then I won't bother.

I don't think so. I think the SD slot needs a driver and not a BIOS device. I tried a SD to PATA adapter and it was very slow.

I can confirm that you can't boot from the internal sd slot.

Can't tell you for sure because I haven't tried it. What I have tried is to boot from a SATA external attached via PCMCIA card which btw is not as better as the inner HD except that the writting/reading speeds are constant.
