X40 HDD upgrade

#1 Post by Desperado » Thu Sep 15, 2011 5:14 pm

Hello,

I'm afraid that my HDD is starting to give out. So, I purchased a 60GB replacement drive model 42T4453 along with Apricorn's Drivewire to attempt a cloning of the existing drive. Looks like I need an adapter to connect the new HDD to the Drivewire. Any suggestions? Thanks.

D

Unfortunately, the 42T4453 has 44 pins. The 1.8 converters on the page you linked to are 50pin configurations.

Actually, those X41 drives are 44-pin, and the Apricorn has the proper 44-pin interface.
No need for an adapter.
You do NOT connect the 4 separate pins to the Apricorn.

The original 1.8in Hitachi drives are 3.3V/5V compatible and safe in the X40 and all adapters. Make sure the new drive is also 5V compatible before you connect it with any adapters. Of course 3.3V drives are safe in the X40 HDD slot.

So the best is place the new drive in the X40 and connect the old drive with an adapter.
