Looking to hire someone! x61 screen mod
Looking to hire someone! x61 screen mod
Hi folks,
I've been steadily cranking away upgrading my x61, and now I'm at a point where I'd really like to get my screen sorted. Unfortunately, I'm certain my skills are not up to the task. Is there anyone on these boards who would take on the job? Alternatively, any suggestions for a business in NYC/environs what could accomplish this? Let me know!

What exactly needs to be done with the screen? Are we talking about soldering connections to PCBs and the like?

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure, lol. I'd love a better screen. My understanding is that it's possible, but extremely difficult. There's this:theterminator93 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 8:49 pmWhat exactly needs to be done with the screen? Are we talking about soldering connections to PCBs and the like?

But from my limited understanding, the SXGA+ screen will require a converter cable, and I don't have a clue where to get it. So basically, yeah, I'm looking for a hired gun with a deft hand and more knowledge than me to get this done, lol.

The adapter cable (thanks to fellow forum member iamdmc for the link): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32358449669.html
The modifications needed are physical:
1. If the SXGA+ screen came with the protective glass layer, you need to remove it.
2. There are mounting tabs (occasionally referred to as "ears"), two on each side, that need to be removed. These need to be cut carefully, as any excess force, pressure, or vibration can damage the LCD-- I know this first-hand.

Oh man, thank you so much! And yeah, that's why I want to get someone to do it for me. I have remarkably un-steady hands.axur-delmeria wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 1:14 amThe adapter cable (thanks to fellow forum member iamdmc for the link): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32358449669.html

Re: Looking to hire someone! x61 screen mod
Looks pretty straightforward, especially with the adapter cable. Is your LCD the one with the digitizer that needs to be removed, or is it just in need of having the extra mounting tabs removed/adapter cable installed/mounted in top cover?
I did undertake this task on my W520 some years ago so I can probably do it - but I haven't done this specifically to an X6x before.

Re: Looking to hire someone! x61 screen mod
My screen came from an X61 Tablet with a cracked protective glass. Had to remove it by myself, with the wrong tools. Surprisingly it survived, but I damaged it while trying to remove the ears.
The LCD panel itself is fragile, and it doesn't take much force to break it.
