X1 motherboard into X61s?
X1 motherboard into X61s?
Okay, I installed 8gb ram, wireless-N mini-card, 3d antennae, Windows 7 64-bit OS, and Seagate 500gb hybrid drive into my X61s - and it rocks and works fast and flawlessly for my work. (I can recommend all of the above mods without hesitation, so thanks to all who helped with advice re above mods.) I use the X61s for most work (preparing documents) and when I have a massive project, use my T61p for its larger, but still 4:3 aspect screen (also 8gb ram, (wireless-N mini-card and 3d antennae already included), Windows 7 64-bit OS, and Seagate 500gb hybrid drive).
Now I find that my X61s dock and T61p or its dock do not have S-video out (and obviously no HDMI out) and my video chip does not support either. I love the 4:3 aspect display and don't want to give up these machines to get HDMI or S-video out.
Any swap/upgrade suggestions? (I may end up just buying a base X1 (has HDMI 1.4 out) for video but it will inevitably be a pain because I have all my work on the X61s hard drive and multitasking on two separate computers is a pain).
1. Can I put an X1 motherboard in an X61s?
2. Is there any other way to get S-video or HDMI out on my X61s or T61p or on or through their docks? (I tried a $12 converter with no success).
Thanks in advance.

Using the T61 and/or X61 dock, you have DVI out.
For a few $$ you can get a DVI-to-HDMI adapter. Check e.g. www.newegg.com

Re: X1 motherboard into X61s?
Thank you for your reply. But what does DVI out port look like?
I have a blue monitor out port on the X61s ultrabase and on the T61p dock.
I also have a white port on the back of the T61p dock (which is not on the X61s ultrabase).

Re: X1 motherboard into X61s?
Looking at wikipedia, it seems that the T61p has a DVI-D (Dual Link) out port.
What adapter would you suggest.
Also is there a way to connect either the T61p or the X61s to analog TV through S-Video or RCA jacks or otherwise?

Since when the X6 dock have DVI out?
X1 motherboard won't fit in the X61 chassis.
Get an active vga to svideo converter they are about 50 to 70 USD for an entry level one.

Re: X1 motherboard into X61s?
X6 Ultrabase only has VGA, that's correct.
If your T61 dock has only VGA, then it's the Port Replicator (2505). The mini-dock (2504) and dock (2503) have DVI out, which is compatible with HDMI.
Why would one need S-Video in our times? Are you stuck with a TV that for some reason has HDMI-in and S-video-in, but no VGA-in?

Re: X1 motherboard into X61s?
O.k., so I am just learning about video connectivity, so please be patient. And I can be stupid, so please state the obvious.
The T61p dock is a Type 2504 Docking Station which does have DVI-D (Dual Link) out. So, I ordered a DVI-D (Dual Link) male to HDMI female adapter plug from Newegg as suggested by RealBlackStuff. Thanks! (Now I just need to upgrade my tv to one with a HDMI input. I have not watched tv since probably 2005, but I am starting to stream Netflix movies, and want to play them on the current analog tv. My wife's Toshiba has s-video out so we have used it so far.)
The X61s ultrabase does not have a DVI out.
Both X61s ultrabase and T61p dock have VGA out. I believe that is the kinda serial-port looking blue plug on back of both ultrabase and dock. So, stupid question, what does VGA in look like on a tv? Yellow RCA jack? or a plug similar to the VGA out on the computer. If the latter, my tv does not have that input.
lead_org and dr_st, I did buy a converter from VGA to s-video (cheap one) and it didn't work. And the other forum articles I read said that others had a similar lack of success. I usually try to do some research before I ask questions, but remember I am totally new to video out ... as well as being a little dense.
Thanks again for your help!
P.S. I have been reduced to drinking Foster's because it is cheaper than Guinness.

Re: X1 motherboard into X61s?
If a TV has VGA-in, it will look like a VGA-in. So unfortunately your current TV does not have it.
Most modern LCDs have VGA-in.
For the VGA-Svideo or VGA-RCA converters to work, the video adapter must actually output composite/S-video signals on the VGA connector, and Thinkpads don't do that (some laptops or desktop video cards do).
So for your current analog TV the only thing that will help you is the active converter lead_org mentioned. For the future LCD TV, just make sure to buy one with a VGA-in.

Re: X1 motherboard into X61s?
Got it. Thank you dr_st, and to all.
(BTW, I loved my A31p w/ numpad, I thought it was the complete desktop replacement, but it eventually had intermittent problems which tech support, depot, and even onsite repair couldn't fix so was replaced with a T42p under warranty.)
Cheers and take care.
