CSS crashes with any Antivirus/Firewall program
Hi
I have a T60, running XP Pro SP3, and I can't run a decent AV/Firewall. Last time I installed one it started a caos without proportions (for me anyway). But after days of troubleshooting I realized that the problem was Eset Internet Security. Together with Eset support we succed to uninstall the program (at that time I didn't had access to my own computer).
Now my question: Can someone at this forum advice me which AV/Firewall program that is suitable for CSS 7.0 and what configurations I have to do immediately after installing it?
I appreciate all advice I can get!
Best regards//Plaincollar

The free Avast will work fine.
Another option is the (also free) MS Security Essentials.
No need to waste your money on paid-for AV.
As to a Firewall, a decent router with built-in FW, SPI (stateful packet inspection) and NAT will do more good than a software FW.

Re: CSS crashes with any Antivirus/Firewall program
Thanks for responding. The main issue is to be able to block some Url's. Avast is okey but the blocking features are not so exiting. I would like to have the possibility to get a question to allow or deny an Url. If you don't know the name at the Url, before you se it, you want be able to block it, for ex "adobe allways updater solution". So it would be nice to have that possibility....

If you want that sort of control, this FW is highly recommendable: OnlineArmor from http://www.online-armor.com/
I had it on my own PC but threw it out because it asked too many questions.
It is highly adjustable, but I personally have no intent to dig into all the niceties of such a program. YMMV.

Re: CSS crashes with any Antivirus/Firewall program
Hi there
Stupid as I am I running Eset IS 5 again but this time I've excluded every file and folder that as much as heard about Thinkvantages, Thinkpad and Lenovo. I Installed Eset for a couple of days ago and I still haven't got the courage to rebooted yet. But I'll check up that program and vill use it as soon as Eset starts to show up some bad mode.
Thanks alot!//Plaincollar

Okey,I'll try Online-Armor. But before I mess it up again, can You please tell me what precaution You took before installing it (provided it was a Thinkpad with CSS?). I guess that if I just install it, CSS will be blocked again....//PlaincollarRealBlackStuff wrote:If you want that sort of control, this FW is highly recommendable: OnlineArmor from http://www.online-armor.com/

I never use any security software like CSS, as I have absolutely no use for that stuff.
Being the only user of my laptops, no need for any of that problem-stuff. YMMV.
