X61 Tablet Disassembly Blocked By Stripped Screw

#1 Post by JayDugger » Tue Nov 08, 2011 10:57 am

One of the M2 screws holding in the keyboard of my X61 tablet (7764-CTO) stymies my disassembly efforts. I stripped th head of the screw, and of course, now need to remove it to replace the fan.

Before I try drilling it out--any suggestions more constructive than electro-discharge milling?

I drill them out all the time. I use a 3/32" bit and drill down until the head starts to spin on the bit. At that point, there is enough left to grab the shank with vice grips after the keyboard is removed.
