X61s battery locking catch broken

#1 Post by tombazza » Mon Nov 14, 2011 7:09 am

I've just received a reconditioned X61s, and have noticed that the battery locking catch (left hand side on the base) appears to have a small chip taken out of the tab that slots into the battery. I've been browsing the service manuals and the FRU lists, but can't seem to find the correct replacement part or kit.

The kit I was looking at initially was the 41V9741, but this appears to be a different part of the machine.

Could anyone possibly point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Tom

Your best bet is to buy a used/new base, and get the parts out of there.
X60 bases are cheaper than X61 bases, but the battery latches are identical.
Check for ibm x60 base on eBay, ~$16.-

Excellent, I'll purchase one of those in that case. Do you have any idea how difficult it would be to replace just the catch? There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information on this seemingly important part!

You will need to completely disassemble your laptop.
There are no specific instructions for the battery-latch, but that shouldn't be too difficult.
They are sliders, held in place by a small spring. You'll see it when you get the spare base.
Alternatively, get a new X61s base and transfer your mobo and stuff into that...

Tip: make a sketch of the bottom with the screw holes, then tape the screws on the matching 'hole' on that sketch.
Do similar for the inside.
